FAQs
Q: Why the mixed-age classes?
Within a mixed-age format, children are encouraged to teach,
collaborate, and help each other. We allow the child to choose
his/her own work based on their interest and abilities. We also
allow them to formulate their own concepts from self –teaching
materials. The children are allowed to work as long as they
would like to in a chosen area and can work where they are comfortable.
Group work is voluntary and negotiable.
We believe that the mixed-age classes add something extra to
our programs. Our experience has proven that children learn
better from other children. For example, a 3-year old may feel
more comfortable learning from a 6-year old rather than an adult.
The 6-year old gets the experience of being a leader and the
younger child sees the older child do something, may want to
try it, or will simply watch and prepare for the day that they
are ready.
Q: How do you deal with toilet training?
Our preference is that the majority of children entering in
the facility will be fully toilet trained. This means that the
child is able to indicate to the instructor that he/she needs
to use the bathroom. We will be taking bathroom breaks every
half hour.
In a new situation children can get busy and may need reminders.
The staff at ABC
for KIDS will remind the child throughout the
program by taking them to the bathroom every 30 minutes. Please
have a change of clothes in the child’s bag in case he/she
may need them.
If it is determined that your child is ready for the ABC
for KIDS program, but toilet training is not
complete, the staff at ABC
for KIDS will work with you.
Q: What is your staff-to-child ratio?
We will have no more than 8 children in the room at one time.
One instructor will be in the room at all times and available
to assistant and instruct the children. We will also have instructor
assistants to help each child.
Q: What is your sick policy?
While it is sometimes hard to determine whether a child is
truly sick, we require that parents not send their children
to ABC
for KIDS while sick. Please call ABC
for KIDS if your child will not be in class.ABC
for KIDS uses the following guidelines: Keep
your child at home if there are any of the following symptoms:
Sub-normal temperatures; 99-100 degree temperatures with symptoms,
100 degrees or over (even without symptoms); tiredness; sore
throat; runny nose/eyes; coughing; sneezing; intestinal upset;
diarrhea, or vomiting. If your child vomited, had a fever, or
diarrhea, please wait until the child has been free of symptoms
for at least 24 hours before returning to ABC
for KIDS. You will be notified if your child
becomes ill at ABC
for KIDS. At that time you must come to ABC
for KIDS to pick up your child. Under most
circumstances a sick child will be kept in the ABC
for KIDS room while waiting to be picked up.
This is for the health and safety of all the ABC
for KIDS participants.
Q: Do you provide snacks?
ABC
for KIDS strongly believes proper nutrition
enhances a child's overall wellbeing. We will not provide a
snack for your child, however we strongly suggest you leave
a snack in your child's bag in the event they request one. We
also have Power Bars available for $1.00 at the front desk.
Please let us know of any allergies. Due to our unique environment,
we ask that you hydrate and feed your child before they enter
ABC
for KIDS so that they get the most out of their
special experience.
Q: How do you handle make-up sessions?
Due to our small classroom size we do not allow make-ups.
